Wide Mouth Cap

I bought this as a replacement because my old cap broke where the hinge attaches. The new one only lasted me a yea Rand I only use it when I got hiking. I never attach it to my bag, I put it in a pouch. Occasionally I carry it by the hinge. I’m super disappointed. I thought these were meant to survive rugged outdoors adventures.

My lid leash tore and the bottle/ color combo is discontinued ( brown bottle with orange leash). Black lid replacement looks weird and is already tearing after a few months.

The cap leashes are very disappointing compared to past generations. It’s the first week of March and one I got brand new with a bottle at Christmas is already torn through- and it was never under heavy stress- the texture of the cap ribbing essentially sawed through it like a serated blade. In fact, I only used it a third of the time because I cycle through three different bottles.

I see a lot people complaining that the straps don’t last as long as they used to. That hasn’t been my experience. My lid straps only ever ripped after my cats chewed on them, they seem to be obsessed with these!

Otherwise all straps and lids have all lasted me as long as the bottles so far. I hand wash only, take them hiking and do not hang them by the strap on my bag, but do occasionally hold them by the straps. Never had one rip with normal use. I like to periodically replace my lids only because I like the variety of color, and again, my cats LOVE to chew on them.

Ordered the color Pink and it is a different (darker) shade than what is depicted on the website.

Nalgene has always been dependable for me. I wish there were more solid color options on the caps. The Woodsman cap has an orange strap and light green stud for the strap to swivel on. Make it simple, all brown. Or give me the option of buying a custom cap.

My lid melted right off the bottle in the dishwasher… on the lowest setting!

The one I have from when I was a boy scout is much thicker and never broke, now I am replacing one every year.
I don’t mind the money but I do kind the plastic waste. I’ve repaired it with glues various times but it’s at its end…..

Do better Nalgene

Great bottle but I’ve replaced the cap 3 times because the strap breaks. Make the damn strap as durable as the rest of the components!

I have a 12 year old bottle who’s cap leash doesn’t have a tear in it. The leash on my 3yo bottle just tore of (inconveniently on vacation.) Not what they used to be.

Loved that I could get a replacement cap to my Nalgene water bottle bought 21 years ago!!! Water bottle still solid after rough years of continued outdoor use!
Pretty good idea of getting replacement cap that broke rather than buying the whole bottle. Made in USA – awesome 😎!

It defeats the purpose of a sustainability mission if the replacement cap for a reusable bottle is almost half the price of a new bottle. This pricing encourages the wasteful practice of buying entirely new bottles when a simple cap replacement is all that is required.

Would be more responsible if these were recyclable at the end of their useable lifespan. Or, at least made of recycled materials. Great that production is in USA, but we can do better with sustainable materials and a lower carbon footprint than this. Caps last much shorter than the bottles. Usually the strap breaks in 4-5 years while the bottle is almost indestructible. Strange that the bottle is relatively recyclable while the strap is not.
