24oz On-The-Fly Lock-Top Sustain Bottle

Nalgene classic- made to last. Nalgene on the fly? Made to break. I like the idea (I wanted a straw-free, low-fuss mechanism for a water bottle- this fit the bill perfectly) but within 1 day of use, the locking mechanism broke, and the lid wouldn’t stay shut unless the metal clip was fastened…my daughter dropped it, and the metal clip unlatched and the lid flew open……water everywhere.

I’ve been using these my whole life and I love them – best bottle, good price, only ever replaced them because i lost them.

BUT they need to start selling replacements for the rubber cap thing. It should really be considered a consumable because it will become dirty and cannot be cleaned anymore. I still use them but Id rather not

The lids for these bottles fail. We have purchased three bottles and two replacement lids over the course of a year and a half of school. The plastic catch has broken on three lids, and the metal lock has ripped off of one other. Our most recent replacement lid broke in just one week of use. The only lid that hasn’t broken was purchased about three weeks ago, and I am certain that it will also break in time, just as the others have.
Additionally, one bottle cracked in the center of the base, though I do believe that this is a more understandable fail given the occasional drops that tend to occur, especially with use by children.
Although we love our classic wide-mouth Nalgenes, each of which is 10+ years old, our family’s impression of the on-the-fly lids is that they simply are not built to last.

I love these bottles – as a mountaineer a leaking cap would be a big problem but these have never leaked on me and mine are almost 10 years old!

This bottle is great for the gym. Lightweight, easy to lock and spill-proof.

I love the design of this bottle, but latch on the cap seems to have a design problem. The plastic catch loop that snaps into place behind the button failed in just a few weeks. Thinking it was a fluke, I ordered a second cap and that failed in the same way. The little loop just cracks after being opened and closed a number of times. It’s a rather thin piece of plastic and seems to simply be a weak spot in the design. As I’ve had two lids fail in less than two months, I contacted customer service and they sent me two replacement lids but I’m not confident that they won’t fail in the exact same way.

Everything else I love. Easy to clean, good size for daily use, fits well in a cup holder or a backpack side pouch. I just hope they make the cap stronger in the future.

Great bottle. I WISH they would make replacement stoppers for the caps. That’s what needs to be replaced most often. I hate having to buy the whole cap just because the stopper got funky. Anything other than water makes them gunky.
C’mon Nalgene!
Sell them separately – even in packs!
You should sell a ton of them.
If not, I’ll buy another brand.

The on-the-fly bottle is my most favorite water bottle. And I have tried them all. Perfect size, easy to clean, one-handed operation, leak-proof; and the cap design turns into an instant carabiner so I can attach the bottle to any strap if needed.
